LGBTQ Care at Galileo

Galileo is a digital-first health practice that offers 24/7 in-app access to one-of-a-kind, board-certified doctors. With us, you can get treatment on your time and on your terms—and this includes LGBTQ needs. Keep reading to learn more about our approach.

Do Galileo doctors have experience treating LGBTQ patients?

Galileo clinicians have many years of experience working in a wide variety of healthcare settings, providing care for individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.

Can I request a doctor with a specific background in LBGTQ care?

At Galileo, our providers work as a team. We are expert clinicians, available to address a wide array of health concerns at any time. That means you might get more than one healthcare provider helping out on any single case. Rest assured that no matter which provider is helping you, they are sensitive and highly qualified.

What kind of gender care does Galileo offer?

Galileo offers full-spectrum gender care, including hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Whether you are hoping to continue an established HRT regimen that’s working well for you, or are just starting to think about the possibility of gender-affirming medical treatment, we can help.

One thing to note is that testosterone is currently considered a controlled substance and, as such, it cannot be prescribed through virtual health services. If testosterone is a part of your hormone regimen, we will help you find a provider to consult in person for medication management.

The pronoun I use for my gender isn’t the one I was assigned at birth. Is there a way for me to communicate this to Galileo and will my provider know to use that pronoun?

We will always align with your gender preference. When you register at Galileo, you can indicate whether you identify as male, female, or neither of those. We will use the pronouns of your preference.

Will Galileo ask for any other information related to my gender or sex?

Often, the sex you were assigned at birth isn’t relevant to clinical care. But because it occasionally can be, it’s important that the clinicians at Galileo know this information. Therefore, we ask that you provide it when you establish care with us. If the sex you were assigned at birth is one that you do not identify with, just let us know, and we will proceed accordingly as we care for you.

I have a preferred name that isn’t my legal name. Can I let Galileo know that?

We are happy to use your preferred name! For the purposes of certain documents, such as prescriptions and lab orders, our team will need to know your legal name. If you prefer to be called by a different name in conversation, we will absolutely honor your preference.

When Galileo makes referrals, can I expect those doctors to be LGBTQ friendly?

Our team does everything we can to ensure that the specialists to whom we refer are the right fit for our patients. We encourage our patients to highlight any specific criteria that are important to them, when we consider a specialist to refer to.

Can Galileo make referrals for counseling and support services?

Galileo prioritizes mental health optimization among our patients. Our patient support team and providers are very knowledgeable regarding behavioral health support offerings across the country, in-person and online.

What other features and kinds of care can Galileo members expect?

Galileo is like having a superdoctor on your phone, offering 24/7 access to a multispecialty team of medical experts through chat, phone, and video. You can get prescriptions, lab tests, and in-network referrals without claims costs or copays. We also offer interactive engagement, including health quizzes, videos, and community forums.
